A Time of Positive and Negative Energy
Mabon is one of those times of year that affect people in different ways. For some, it's a season to honor the darker aspects of the goddess, calling upon that which is devoid of light. For others, it's a time of thankfulness, of gratitude for the abundance we have at the season of harvest. No matter how you see it, Mabon is traditionally a time of balance. After all, it's one of the two times each year that has equal amounts of darkness and daytime.
Because this is, for many people, a time of high energy, there is sometimes a feeling of restlessness in the air, a sense that something is just a bit "off". If you're feeling a bit spiritually lopsided, with this simple meditation you can restore a little balance into your life.
Setting the Mood
Now that fall is here, why not do an autumn version of Spring Cleaning? Get rid of any emotional baggage you're dragging around with you. Accept that there are darker aspects to life, and embrace them, but don't let them rule you. Understand that a healthy life finds balance in all things.
You can perform this ritual anywhere, but the best place to do it is outside, in the evening as the sun goes down. Decorate your altar (or if you're outside, use a flat stone or tree stump) with colorful autumn leaves, acorns, small pumpkins, and other symbols of the season. You'll need a black candle and a white one of any size, although tealights probably work best. Make sure you have something safe to put them in, either a candle holder or a bowl of sand.
Light both candles, and say the following:
A balance of night and day, a balance of light and dark
Tonight I seek balance in my life
as it is found in the Universe.
A black candle for darkness and pain
and things I can eliminate from my life.
A white candle for the light, and for joy
and all the abundance I wish to bring forth.
At Mabon, the time of the equinox,
there is harmony and balance in the Universe,
and so there shall be in my life.
Meditate on the things you wish to change. Focus on eliminating the bad, and strengthening the good around you. Put toxic relationships into the past, where they belong, and welcome new positive relationships into your life. Let your baggage go, and take heart in knowing that for every dark night of the soul, there will be a sunrise the next morning.

Celtic Tree Month of Hawthorn Begins (Tomorrow)
The Hawthorn is a prickly sort of plant with beautiful blossoms. Called Huath by the ancient Celts, and pronounced Hoh-uh, the Hawthorn month is a time of fertility, masculine energy, and fire. Coming right on the heels of Beltane, this month is a time when male potency is high -- if you're hoping to conceive a child, get busy this month!
The Hawthorn has a raw, phallic sort of energy about it -- use it for magic related to masculine power, business decisions, making professional connections. The Hawthorn is also associated with the realm of Faerie, and when the Hawthorn grows in tandem with an Ash and Oak, it is said to attract the Fae.

The Censer & The Bell
The Censer
Pronounced sen-ser this is also referred to as an incense burner or thurible
(thur-a-bel). Censers come in a wide variety of styles, material and colors.
There are fewer conventions surrounding the censer than any other ritual tool.
Some are metal suspended from chains, some are bowls filled with sand or salt,
and every possibility in-between. The censer represents air and may be made of
wood, ceramic, soapstone, earthenware, glass, stone, brass, copper, iron;
literally any material. The censer is often placed before the image of the
Deity(s) in the middle of the altar. All authors who mention the censer agree
that the design and material are unimportant, each practitioner should go with
what they like. The incense represents air like the censer.
If you will primarily be using stick or cone incense you may use any sort of
incense burner you like. At some point you may decide to branch out into loose
incense, compounding your own incense, or chosing herbs for magical
correspondences. then you will need a censer capable of smoldering incense on a
burning charcoal. Perhaps the easiest thing to do is to obtain a bowl you like,
fill it with sand, and voila, you have a censer. The sand is necessary to
dissipate the heat from the burning charcoal and incense. It will prevent the
surface under the censer from being damaged by high temperatures and will
protect the bowl itself so that it won't crack or explode. Despite the sand
however, do not use a combustible container for such a censer. Glass, metal,
ceramic or stone are all good choices.
The Bell or Gong
A feminine symbol used to invoke the Goddess, ward off evil spirits, evoke
positive energies; to mark the beginning, end, or sections of the ritual. It is
used for the vibrations the sound produces so it is important to find a bell
with a pleasant sound, clear and sweet. The bell may be engraved or decorated if
desired. Not all traditions use the bell, only Buckland and Cunningham mention
it. It is often used to punctuate various high points in the rituals of
Ceremonial Magic as well. The bell represents either spirit or air if it can be
considered to represent any of the elements. It is a fairly commonly used tool
by Traditional witches as well as Wiccans.
The gong may be substituted for a bell if you like, it is often used in
Ceremonial Magic. The sound of the gong or bell is used in Buddhist, Hindu and
Shamanic rituals to attract the attention fo the Gods and as the physical
representation of the spiritual force. Bells are easier to find and less
expensive, but a coven or group may want to go to the extra effort to find a
gong as a communal tool. I was able to find a triangle and it makes the most
wonderful sound. You may also choose to use windchimes in ritual which may be
struck with a mallet or brushed with the hand. Some choose to incorporate
Buddhist singing bowls into their practice.

Auras
As living, energy-emitting, spiritual creatures, there is
essentially no doubt that we all have a personal aura that can be seen and
possibly photographed. Religious
photographs depicting a supernatural
glow around the subject are classic examples of the existence and the
importance of our own personal auras, and every life form has an aura - be it
human, animal, or plant. Each person's
aura is uniquely individual, much like a fingerprint, and interpretation of the
fluctuations in intensity and color can give us meaningful insight into the
thoughts, feelings, and even the health of ourselves or those around us.
Though most of us can't see the auras of ourselves or others,
some people apparently can, and their reports are what we must depend on to
understand the significance of the color of the aura, how far the aura emanates
out from the body, and how we can use this data to reveal more about ourselves
or others. Unlike the religious pictures mentioned above, which usually portray
the subject with a white or golden aura, auras actually cover the spectrum of
color, and the colors and intensity of the aura change constantly along with
our moods, thoughts, and levels of energy.
Science has not embraced the concept of auras, though they do
acknowledge that each living creature emits gasses, radiation, and energy. Scientific testing has been inconclusive, as
would be expected when trying to test an ever-changing, highly variable
phenomena such as auras, but photography techniques are being tried all the
time in an effort to produce consistent results, and as technology advances, it
is almost a certainty that someone will stumble upon a way to get consistent
photographs depicting auras.
Despite the scientific skepticism of auras, this concept has
been around since the beginning of time, and there is a lot of data pertaining
to them from all over the world that is in basic agreement on the meanings of
the colors, the intensity of individual auras, and ways to become more
sensitive to their existence. It is this
data that we will compile and use in this section to try to give an accurate
depiction of auras and how they can be used as a vehicle by which we can
understand our thoughts, moods, and even our very existences more clearly.

Celtic Tree Month of Reed Begins
Celtic Tree Month of Reed begins --
Reed is typically used
to make wind instruments, and this time of year, its haunting sounds are
sometimes heard when the souls of the dead are being summoned to the
Underworld.
The Reed Moon was called Negetal, pronounced nyettle by the Celts,
and is sometimes referred to as the Elm Moon by modern Pagans.
This is a time
for divination and scrying. If you're going to have a seanse this is a good
month to do it.
This month, do magical workings related to spirit guides, energy
work, meditation, celebration of death, and honoring the cycle of life and
rebirth.

Ghost, Demons & Other Spirit Entities. . . Oh My!
GHOSTS
To call these entities ghosts demands first a definition of
what we mean by ghosts. But by almost
any definition, shadow people are somewhat different than ghost phenomena.
Whereas ghost apparitions are almost always a misty white, vaporish or have a
decidedly human form and appearance (very often with discernable "clothing"),
shadow beings are much darker and more shadow-like. In general, although the
shadow people often do have a human outline or shape, because they are dark,
the details of their appearance is lacking. This is in contrast to many ghost
sightings in which the witness can describe the ghost's facial features, style
of clothing and other details. The one detail most often noted in some shadow
being sightings are their glowing red eyes.
DEMONS OR OTHER SPIRIT ENTITIES
The dark countenance and malevolent feelings that are often
reported in association with these creatures has led some researchers to
speculate that they may be demonic in nature. If they are demons, we have to
wonder what their purpose or intent is in letting themselves be seen in this
manner. Is it merely to frighten?

The Imagination
The explanation we get from skeptics and mainstream science
- and who are usually people who have never experienced the shadow people
phenomenon - is that it is nothing more than the active human imagination. It's
our minds playing tricks on us... our eyes seeing things in a fraction of a
second that aren't really there - illusions... real shadows caused by passing
auto headlights, or some similar explanation. And without a doubt, these
explanations probably can account for some if not many experiences. The human
eye and mind are easily fooled. But can they account for all cases?

Shadow People
There's a growing interest in the phenomenon of shadow
people. What are they?
Ghosts? Interdimensional beings? Time travelers? Something
else?
"WHAT WAS THAT?" You were sitting comfortably on
your sofa reading the latest issue of FATE in the dim light when movement across
the room caught your attention. It seemed dark and shadowy, but there was
nothing there. You returned to your reading - and a moment later there it was
again. You looked up quickly this time and saw the fleeting but distinctly
human shape of the shadow pass quickly over the far wall... and disappear.
What was that? Some natural shadow? Your heightened
imagination? A ghost? Or was it something that seems to be a spreading
phenomenon - apparitions that are coming to be known as "shadow
people" or "shadow beings." Perhaps this is an old phenomenon
with a new name that is now being discussed more openly, in part thanks to the
Internet. Or maybe it's a phenomenon that, for some reason, is manifesting with
greater frequency and intensity now.
Those who are experiencing and studying the shadow people
phenomenon say that these entities almost always used to be seen out of the
corner of the eye and very briefly. But more and more, people are beginning to
see them straight on and for longer periods of time. Some experiencers testify
that they have even seen eyes, usually red, on these shadow beings.
The mysterious sightings have become a hot topic of
conversion in paranormal chat rooms, message boards and websites, and it is
given widespread attention on paranormal talk radio.
I think the main questions we should be asking ourselves are what are shadow people and where do they come from?

Feng Shui
Feng Shui (pronounced Fung Shway), in its simplest terms, is
an ancient practice originated by the Chinese as a way to live in harmony with
nature. Translated into English, Feng means wind, and Shui means water. Bear
this in mind, because everything in Feng Shui is directly related to flow, or
movement, such as in wind or water. Energy is a term you will also hear often
in Feng Shui, and this relates to Chi, or the energy that permeates everything around
us.
Alrighty then, the question arises as to whether Feng Shui
really works. The simple answer is that it does seem to, although the reasons
for why are debatable (more on that later). At its core, Feng Shui is a
environmental discipline that emphasizes cleanliness, orderliness, and harmony
with nature in and around the home and workplace. Clean house, clear mind.
We've all heard it. The first rule in Feng Shui is to declutter - which will in
turn supposedly declutter your mind. Fair enough, but what if you have 5
screaming kids and the house is a wreck all the time and you work two jobs
trying to keep food on the table? You need Mary Poppins, not friggin Feng Shui.
I get it. So a good portion of this section will be devoted to you, the
harassed, the overworked, the disorganized, and the exasperated people who are
actually the very people who can benefit most from Feng Shui. But don't
misunderstand. These are principles that can and do apply to anyone who lives
or works in a man-made box commonly called a home or office.
The very first step in harmonizing with nature using Feng
Shui is to assess your surroundings. Very few of us live in a home with
naturally great Feng Shui, and a lot of the concepts of Feng Shui involve just
plain old-fashioned common sense. It's better for your house to be above street
level than below street level because of careening cars, heavy rains, and such.
It's better to have a hill behind you than have a yard that slopes steeply in
the back for safety reasons - criminals can more easily sneak up on you from
below grade and it's dangerous to enjoy the backyard when there's a cliff out
there. Inside, bathrooms are a big deal in Feng Shui because of all the nasties
that go on in there, and placement in the center of the house is not considered
a good thing. In fact, it seems that placement anywhere is never really optimal
for a bathroom in Feng Shui. The good news is that whatever horrific Feng Shui
scenario your house or office endures, there is a Feng Shui remedy that will
negate the bad and enhance the good energies.
Look around for a few minutes. I mean really look around.
How do you feel about the space you are in? Is there a really good feature to
that room, such as architectural moldings, great windows, or a cool nook? Is there
a terrible feature such as a horrible light fixture or rusted vent cover? How
you feel in your core about your space is what you have to learn to listen to.
You can fill your space with new stuff, but if it doesn't sing to you, it's all
just stuff. Learn to listen to yourself and modify your space accordingly. If
your problem is that you are just overwhelmed with stuff such as toys, find
creative ways to either put it to use or store it in an attractive way. And
please get rid of what is not usable anymore and teach the kids to put stuff
away if they want to keep it! Even if you don't have much money, there are
resources available for creative storage ideas. Search for pieces of furniture
that do double duty.
Coffee tables with lift up lids, end tables with doors and
drawers, ottomans that open for storage, beds with dressers built in underneath
- there are a lot of ways to cram stuff into a small space, and it doesn't have
to be expensive. Thrift stores, flea markets, Craig's list - all are good sources
for really cool storage. And for those with a few basic power tools and a tape
measure, you can make shelves, rework closets, and make boxes to hold stuff for
a big return with little investment other than time. I've done all this stuff
at my house, so don't give me that crap about not being able to do it yourself.
We have internet, people - and there are videos and web pages filled with
wonderful information on basic do-it-yourself projects - use them!
Once you get the clutter under control, the real Feng Shui
fun begins! For one thing, if you have followed the instructions above, your
life is undoubtedly a good bit better than it was before. Nothing like a
creative, useful project to make you feel better - especially when visitors
notice! As referred to above, one of the reasons that Feng Shui works is that
it is a vehicle by which you take back your life and feel more empowered. For
those with kids, jobs, and no time or money, just this unprecedented mastery of
your environment is empowering and invigorating. Even if you just spray paint
that rusty vent cover, DO something to make your living space more appealing to
you!

Smudging & Clearing
Threw the site and from individuals in general I have been inquired
about what smudging or a sage-ing is. Well let me first clarify what it is done
for and what is being done.
“Smudging is the burning of certain herbs to create a cleansing
smoke bath, which is used to purify people, space, ceremonial tools and
objects. There are many different herbal mixtures that can be used as well as
varied ways to smudge according to cultural beliefs. The herbs are burnt on
their own or in mixtures, depending on tradition and required effect. Sage is
used as a cleansing and purifying agent, the effect of the smoke is to banish
negative energies. The powerful cleansing vibration it emits when burned is
used to purify the subtle energies.”
What I do as a spiritual healer is I will come to you, your
house, and so on it is you need done and perform a clearing/smudging of your
space and what that does is remove stagnant energy. I also clear the space of
leftover vibrations from a previous owner, tenant, or any negative energy to
begin with.
Many people believe in different things like vibes, chakras,
energy flows and much more. When you burn the sage it is within a spiritual
aspect that you are cleansing you or your space. It’s all about cultural beliefs
but even beyond that it’s about the acknowledgment of the existence of such
things.
If you are left with any questions are invite you to visit
our Cosmic Seekers site to find out more about Smudging or even send us and
email at c.seekers@aol.com so we can clarify any questions you may have
